Yunogo Onsen is one of "Mimasaka San-yu" — the three legendary hot springs of Mimasaka region (with Yubara and Okutsu). Origin legend dates to circa 824 AD when the priest Ennin (Jikaku Daishi) was guided to the spring by an injured white heron. The town is in the foothills of the Mimasaka region, where legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi was born in 1584 (the "Musashi Hometown" museum is 15 min away). About 12 ryokan in a compact, well-preserved district. Alkaline simple springs ideal for skin. Combine with Bizen pottery workshops 40 min south. From Okayama: 1h 30min by bus.

Okutsu Onsen is the third of "Mimasaka San-yu" — set deep in the Yoshii River gorge with about 10 traditional ryokan. The town's historic charm includes the legendary "Ashi-bumi senjaku" (foot-stamp laundry) tradition — for centuries, women would gather at the riverside to wash clothes by stomping them in the running water, a unique cultural practice that became a tourist demonstration (still performed on weekends in summer). 桃太郎伝説の里、吉備津神社の門前湯

Kibitsu Onsen sits at the foot of Mt. Naka in Okayama City, walking distance from Kibitsu Shrine — the legendary site of Japanese folk hero Momotaro's "ogre extermination" story (the historical figure Prince Kibitsuhiko-no-Mikoto). Kibitsu Shrine's main hall (honden) and worship hall are National Treasures, built in the "Kibitsu-zukuri" (hiyoku-irimoya) style found nowhere else in Japan. The onsen district is small (3–4 ryokan) but offers exceptional access to Kibi region history — the ancient Kibitsu Shrine, Kibitsuhiko Shrine, and the "Kibi Plain" cycling route.
