天照神話の峡谷と夜神楽の里

Takachiho, in Miyazaki's mountainous north, is one of Japan's most sacred mythological sites — said to be where the sun goddess Amaterasu hid in the "Ama-no-Iwato" cave, plunging the world into darkness. The dramatic Takachiho Gorge, with its sheer columnar cliffs and the slender Manai Falls (best seen by rowboat), is the visual icon. Amano-Iwato Shrine and the nightly "Yokagura" sacred dance keep the myths alive. The small onsen here serves pilgrims and gorge visitors. A few ryokan and inns operate. From Miyazaki City: about 3h by bus; also reachable from Kumamoto.

Ebino Plateau (Ebino Kogen) sits at about 1,200m on the Miyazaki side of the Kirishima volcanic range, surrounded by crater lakes, grasslands, and hiking trails. The plateau is renowned for autumn foliage (one of Kyushu's earliest and best) and, in winter, occasional snow — rare for southern Kyushu. The highland onsen offers a cool mountain soak with sulfur-tinged waters. Note that some trails near active craters may close during elevated volcanic alerts, so check before hiking. A handful of lodgings serve hikers and nature travelers. From Miyazaki City: about 1h 30min by car.

えびの高原は霧島連山の宮崎側、標高約1200mに位置し、火口湖・草原・登山道に囲まれます。高原は紅葉（九州で最も早く美しいもののひとつ）で名高く、冬には南九州では珍しい雪が降ることも。高原の温泉は、硫黄を帯びた湯で涼やかな山の浴を提供します。活火口近くの一部の登山道は火山警戒レベル上昇時に閉鎖されることがあるので、登山前に確認を。数軒の宿が登山者や自然旅行者を迎えます。宮崎市から車で約1時間30分。
