Arima is the most historically prestigious onsen in Japan — uniquely appearing on both major rankings ("Three Oldest" with Dogo and Shirahama, "Three Great" with Kusatsu and Gero per Hayashi Razan 1665). Its first written record dates to the 8th-century "Nihon Shoki" chronicle, when Emperors Jomei and Kotoku reportedly visited. The defining feature is two distinct hot spring types from springs only 100m apart: "Kinsen" (gold spring) — iron-bearing, salty, opaque rust-brown — and "Ginsen" (silver spring) — clear, carbonated, gentle. Both rise from extremely deep faults under the Rokko mountains. The walkable old town has 30+ ryokan in a compact valley just 60 min from Kobe/Osaka. 有馬温泉は日本温泉史で最も格式高い湯——「日本三古湯」（道後・白浜と並ぶ）と「日本三名泉」（1665年林羅山が草津・下呂と認定）の両方に名を連ねる、唯一の温泉地です。8世紀「日本書紀」に最古の文献記録が登場し、舒明天皇・孝徳天皇が行幸した歴史があります。最大の特徴は100m以内に湧き出る2種類の異なる湯——「金泉」（含鉄塩化物泉、塩辛く濁った茶褐色）と「銀泉」（炭酸泉・ラジウム泉、透明）。両者とも六甲山系深部の断層から湧出します。風情ある温泉街には30軒以上の旅館が並び、大阪・神戸から60分の好アクセス。

七つの外湯めぐり、志賀直哉「城の崎にて」の地

Kinosaki Onsen is the most beautifully preserved hot spring town in Japan — a willow-lined canal running through a single main street, traditional wooden ryokan on both sides, and 7 distinct public bathhouses ("soto-yu") that guests visit in a yukata robe as a single connected ritual. The 1,400-year tradition (origin legend ~720 AD, of a stork seen healing its wounds in the waters) made Kinosaki the prototype for "soto-yu meguri" — walking from bath to bath as the central experience of the visit. Author Shiga Naoya wrote his immortal short story "At Kinosaki" (1917) here while recovering from a train accident — the work that made the town a literary pilgrimage. 98°Cの荒湯と「夢千代日記」の温泉街

Yumura Onsen lies in the deepest northwestern corner of Hyogo, just shy of the Tottori border. Its defining feature is "Arayu" — a 98°C natural cauldron in the center of town where locals and visitors boil eggs and vegetables in cloth pouches, a tradition continuous from the 9th century. The 1981 NHK TV drama "Yumechiyo Diary" (starring Sayuri Yoshinaga) was set here and brought national fame. The Haruki River runs through town with footbaths along its banks. About 20 ryokan operate in a compact, less-touristy district. From Osaka: 3h 30min by Limited Express Hamakaze (the further-out alternative to Kinosaki).

湯村温泉は兵庫北西の山あい、鳥取県境近くに位置します。最大の名物は中心の天然釜「荒湯」——98°Cで湧き出す自然の湯壺で、住民と観光客が布巾に包んだ卵や野菜を吊して茹でる、9世紀から続く伝統。1981年のNHKドラマ「夢千代日記」（吉永小百合主演）の舞台として全国区の知名度に。春来川が温泉街を流れ、川辺に足湯が並びます。約20軒の旅館がコンパクトに立ち並ぶ、観光客が少ない穴場。大阪から特急はまかぜで3時間30分（城崎よりさらに奥）。

Hankyu Hanshin's onsen + Takarazuka Revue + Tezuka Osamu

阪急電車の温泉、宝塚歌劇と手塚治虫の街

Takarazuka Onsen developed in the late Meiji era (1880s) when the Hankyu Railway founder Kobayashi Ichizo recognized the hot spring potential at the terminus of his Osaka-Kobe line. He built a hotel, then in 1914 founded the all-female "Takarazuka Revue" theater there to fill weekend trains with Osaka tourists — and accidentally created Japan's most famous theater company (running continuously for 110+ years). The town is also where manga master Tezuka Osamu (creator of Astro Boy, Black Jack, Phoenix) spent his childhood. The onsen district itself is small (5–6 ryokan/hotels) but the Tezuka Osamu Manga Museum + Takarazuka Grand Theater make it a unique cultural day-or-overnight destination. 宝塚温泉は明治後期（1880年代）、阪急電鉄の創業者・小林一三が大阪〜神戸路線の終点に温泉ポテンシャルを認め、ホテルを建てたのが起源。1914年に「宝塚歌劇団」（全員女性の劇団）を週末の電車客集めのために創設し、結果として110年以上続く日本最有名劇団が誕生しました。漫画の神様・手塚治虫（鉄腕アトム、ブラック・ジャック、火の鳥の作者）が少年期を過ごした街でもあります。温泉地としては小規模（5〜6軒）ながら、手塚治虫記念館+宝塚大劇場で文化観光の独自性を確立。大阪から阪急宝塚線で35分。

Awaji Island coastal onsen + Kii Strait sunsets

淡路島東岸の温泉、紀淡海峡の夕日

Sumoto Onsen sits on the east coast of Awaji Island — the large island bridging Honshu and Shikoku across the Inland Sea, famous for its idyllic countryside, onion farms, and pearl-quality coastline. The onsen was discovered in 1945 from deep-sea drilling. About 8 large hotels along the coast offer Kii Strait views (sunset on the Wakayama side). The Onokoroshima Shrine — said to be Japan's first land created by the gods in mythology — is on Awaji, making Sumoto a destination for spiritual+seaside combinations. Famous "Awaji-gyu" beef and onion cuisine. From Kobe: 1h via Akashi Kaikyo Bridge by bus or car.

洲本温泉は淡路島東岸に位置します——本州と四国を結ぶ大きな島で、田園風景・玉ねぎ農場・真珠級の海岸線で知られる豊かな自然の地。1945年、深層掘削で温泉湧出。海岸沿いに8軒程度の大型ホテルが並び、紀淡海峡の夕日（和歌山側）を望みます。日本神話で神が最初に創った国土とされる「おのころ島神社」が淡路島内にあり、洲本は精神性+海岸の組合せ旅の拠点として独自性。名物「淡路牛」と「淡路たまねぎ」のグルメも豊富。神戸から明石海峡大橋経由のバス・車で1時間。
