太平洋の日の出を浴びる、外房屈指のリゾート温泉

Kamogawa stretches along the eastern, outer-Boso coast, where the warm Kuroshio Current pushes Pacific water right up to the beach and keeps the winters gentle. The ryokan here are built around the sunrise: many east-facing baths open before 6am so guests can soak while the sun climbs straight out of the ocean. The town's best-known attraction is Kamogawa Seaworld, a large marine park famous for its orca and dolphin shows — an easy, fun pairing for families. Reach it in about two hours from Tokyo Station on the Wakashio limited express, or by car across the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line. The water is a warming sodium-chloride spring.

外房・鴨川は、暖かい黒潮が太平洋の水を浜辺まで運び、冬でも穏やかな海岸温泉地です。宿は日の出を眺めるために造られており、6時前に開く東向きの朝風呂も多く、海から真っ直ぐ昇る朝日を浴びながら湯に浸かれます。町のシンボルは、シャチやイルカのショーで知られる大型海洋施設・鴨川シーワールドで、家族連れの旅にもぴったり。東京駅から特急わかしおで約2時間、車なら東京湾アクアライン経由でアクセスできます。泉質は、体を芯から温める塩化物泉が中心です。

Inland gorge onsen with foliage and waterfall

紅葉の渓谷と粟又の滝、千葉唯一の渓谷温泉

Yoro Gorge cuts through the centre of the Boso Peninsula and is Chiba's only true mountain-gorge onsen — a complete change of scenery from the coast. Its signature water is "kuro-yu," a dark, peat-rich moor spring (a sodium chloride-bicarbonate water) that wells up cool, around 13–20°C, and is gently heated; the tea-brown bath feels notably soft on the skin. The star sight is Awamata-no-Taki, a wide waterfall that slides 100 metres down a tilted rock face, framed by maples that colour unusually late — late November into early December, among the last foliage anywhere in the Kanto region. Getting there is half the fun: the single-car Kominato Railway rattles through rice paddies that turn rape-blossom yellow in spring.

房総半島中央部の養老渓谷は、千葉で唯一の本格的な山岳渓谷温泉。海とはまったく違う景色が広がります。名物は古代の植物起源の「黒湯（モール泉）」で、泉質はナトリウム-塩化物・炭酸水素塩泉。源泉は13〜20℃ほどと冷たく加温して使われますが、紅茶色の湯は肌当たりがやわらかいと評判です。見どころは、傾いた岩盤を約100m滑り落ちる幅広の名瀑「粟又の滝」。周囲のモミジは海岸性の気候で色づきが遅く、11月下旬〜12月上旬と、関東でも最も遅い部類の紅葉が楽しめます。アクセスは単線の小湊鐵道で、春は沿線が菜の花の黄色に染まります。

Southernmost Boso, lighthouse & flower fields

房総最南端、野島崎灯台と花畑の温泉

At the very southern tip of the Boso Peninsula, the white Nojima-zaki Lighthouse has stood since 1869 — one of only eight Western-style lighthouses Japan agreed to build under the 1866 treaty with the U.S., Britain, France and the Netherlands, and designed by the French engineer Verny. You can climb it for a sweeping Pacific panorama. The surrounding Shirahama district is famous for its winter flower fields: stock, snapdragons and poppies bloom from December through April, when most of Japan is still cold, and many farms let visitors pick their own. Ryokan line the rocky shore, several with open-air baths that look straight out to the open sea.

房総半島の最南端に立つ白亜の野島埼灯台は、1869年（明治2年）の点灯。アメリカ・イギリス・フランス・オランダと結んだ1866年の改税条約で建設を約束した8基の洋式灯台のひとつで、フランス人技師ヴェルニーの設計です。上まで登れば太平洋の大パノラマが広がります。一帯の白浜は冬の花畑が名物で、ストック・キンギョソウ・ポピーなどが12月〜4月、日本の多くがまだ寒い時期に咲き乱れ、花摘み体験ができる農園も多数。海岸沿いには旅館が並び、外洋を正面に望む露天風呂を備えた宿もあります。泉質は塩化物泉が中心です。

Morning market town + cool summer beach onsen

日本三大朝市の町、夏でも涼しい外房の海岸温泉

Katsuura wears two famous badges. The first is its morning market — the Katsuura Asaichi, founded in 1591 and counted among Japan's "Three Great Morning Markets" alongside Wajima and Hida-Takayama; for over 430 years it has set out fresh-landed fish, local vegetables and dried-fish snacks every morning except Wednesdays. The second is its climate: since records began in 1906 the town has never once logged a 35°C "extreme heat" day (its all-time high is 34.9°C, set back in 1924), so cool sea breezes make it a rare summer-friendly onsen escape. Add the rugged scenery of Cape Hachiman and the Katsuura Undersea Park, and it is about 100 minutes from Tokyo Station on the Wakashio express.

勝浦には二つの名物があります。ひとつは朝市。天正19年（1591年）に勝浦城主が市を開かせたのが始まりで、輪島・飛騨高山と並ぶ「日本三大朝市」のひとつです。430年以上にわたり、水曜を除く毎朝、水揚げされたばかりの魚介や地元野菜、干物などが約50の露店に並びます。もうひとつは涼しさで、1906年の観測開始以来、勝浦は一度も35℃の「猛暑日」を記録していません（観測史上最高は1924年の34.9℃）。海からの涼風が吹き抜けるため、夏も過ごしやすい希少な海岸温泉地です。八幡岬や勝浦海中公園の景勝も点在し、東京駅から特急わかしおで約100分です。

Blue waters + sandstone cliffs at peninsula tip

青い海と地層の崖、内房南端の温泉地

Tateyama sits at the southwest corner of the Boso Peninsula, the point where the open Pacific meets the mouth of Tokyo Bay, and its shore falls within the Minami-Boso Quasi-National Park. The coast is sculpted from soft sandstone, wave-cut into the photogenic layered cliffs the area is known for, with calm blue coves tucked in between. Landmark stops include the cliff-top Sunosaki Lighthouse, which looks across the water to the Miura Peninsula, and the dramatic Gake-Kannon (Daifukuji), a vermilion temple hall built into a sheer rock face. It is about two hours from Tokyo on the Sazanami limited express and the Uchibo Line, or a quick run across the Aqua-Line by car.

内房の南西端に位置する館山は、外洋の太平洋と東京湾の入り口が交わる地点で、海岸一帯は南房総国定公園に含まれます。やわらかな砂岩が波に削られてできた地層の崖が美しく、その間に青く穏やかな入り江が点在する——フォトジェニックな景勝海岸として知られます。見どころは、三浦半島を望む断崖上の洲埼灯台や、切り立った岩肌に朱塗りの堂が張り付く「崖観音（大福寺）」。東京駅から特急さざなみ・内房線で約2時間、車なら東京湾アクアライン経由でひとっ走りです。泉質は、体を温める塩化物泉が中心です。
